BUENOS AIRES AT THE BEACH SUMMER TANGO FESTIVAL 2008 TEACHING FACULTY
Special International Guest:
MILENA PLEBS, Argentina

Milena Plebs is the most significant female Argentine tango dancer of our time.
For many years, Milena and her partner, Miguel Angel Zotto, were loved and admired as Buenos Aires' top tango couple, dancing superbly together, and creating and taking original tango shows to the world. Milena has reinvented the Woman of Tango, providing a strong role model and inspiration for thoroughly modern tango women everywhere.
With her partner Miguel Angel Zotto, Milena joined Claudio Segovia and Hector Orezzolli's ground-breaking production of "Tango Argentino". Later Milena and Zotto created the "Compania Tango X 2" choreographing, directing and performing as principal dancers in their shows Tango X 2, Perfumes de Tango and Una Noche de Tango . They also created the choreography for the Tango Operette "Maria de Buenos Aires" for the Houston Grand Opera in 1999.
Milena created and choreographed the show Romance de Barrio and Piazzolla Tango for the sumptuously restored Piazzolla Centre. She has also appeared in many films in her illustrious tango career, such as "Tango, Bayle Nuestro" by Jorge Zanada, "Tango" documentary by the National Geographic Society (USA) with Robert Duvall, "Oratorio Ratoriio a Carlos Gardel" by Horacio Salgan and Horacio Ferrer, "Flop" by Eduardo Mignogna and "Assassination Tango" directed and performed by Robert Duvall.
In the year 2000, Milena started a dance partnership with Ezequiel Farfaro. Together they performed in the "5° Cumbre Mundial del Tango en Rosario, Argentina" and in events in tribute to Gardel in Buenos Aires. They were the subjects of the photographic exhibition by Alejandra Quiroz "Milena del Sur". In 2001, together with Ezequiel, she conceived and performed the choreography of 6 songs for the tango concerts of the ORQUESTA SINFONICA DE STAVANGER, NORUEGA, with PABLO ZIEGLER as a musical director and soloist pianist.
Her extraordinary tango movie, Milena baila el tango con Ezequiel Farfaro , launched in July 2005 & directed by Rodrigo Peiretti, documents her dance relationship with the exciting Ezequiel and their important process of tango renovation.
Throughout her career, she has been awarded renowned prizes for Argentine dance & choreography. Milena has taught Tango seminars during her numerous tours and has participated in Tango Congresses throughout the world.

Serkan y Dana Alasya, Tengo Tango (ACT)
Serkan Alasya: With an early background in Turkish folk dancing Serkan has maintained an enthusiasm for dance and music for over 25 years. After migrating to Australia from Turkey at the age of 17 he continued to
acquire new skills in many different styles of dancing and movement. He has taught Turkish Folk Dancing at folk Dance Canberra as well as workshops in the Blue Mountains NSW. Serkan began giving Argentine Tango classes in Canberra in 2002 when he established TengoTango as a dance school for Argentine Tango. Apart from folk dances of Turkey and various Eastern European countries, Street Latin, HipHop, Lindy Hop, Flamenco & Techno are some of the various styles he has experimented with. In Argentine Tango, however, Serkan believes he has found what he has been searching in his quest for pure movement.
Dana Alasya: Starting in dance performance at the age of 2 ½, Dana has sustained a lifetime of enthusiasm for music and dancing. Her interests have led to a history of dance performance, choreography, and teaching spanning over 2 decades. With formal training in contemporary dance, jazz (music & dance), funk, ballet and tae-kwondo amongst others, she continues to actively pursue her passion for improvisational dance and music by drawing on this eclectic array of skills in Argentine Tango. Dana has been a co-teacher and performer with TengoTango since 2004.
About TengoTango: Dana & Serkan have been dancing and teaching Argentine Tango together since 2004. Their style has been very much influenced by the newer generation of Tango dancers coming out of Argentina who have had taken the opportunity to visit Australia. While seeking to branch out into the more relaxed and consensual style of contemporary tango, Dana & Serkan want to build a bridge between the traditional and the new, recognising that the essence of Argentine Tango remains ever-present in the traditional. Recent public performances by TengoTango include being part of Argentine National Celebrations held by the Argentine Embassy, Tropicana 5, Rhythm of the Night, and for fundraising activities for Puente Austral to raise money for Argentina's rural hospitals. They are also thrilled to again be a part of the teaching faculty at Buenos Aires at the Beach for 2008.
